A comfy stylish flat for work is hard to find. Penners are designed from the ground up to solve the most common problems with most work flats.
1. YOU NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT BLISTERS
No show socks? Who needs them? Well if you’re wearing other flats you might need them. They're annoying and they always will be. Penners don’t cut into the back of your heel like other flats do. The v-cut heel counter is the result of years of testing and 20+ iterations. It works. Plus the upper and lining are made with double-drummed full grain leather. That means it’s soft. Crazy soft. When leather is processed it goes through a drumming stage which is similar to kneading bread dough. Bakers will often knead, then let the dough proof, then they’ll pound it down and knead it again. Leather drumming is very similar. The drumming takes time and most leather is drummed once. Penners are double drummed to achieve a level of softness rarely found in a pair of shoes.
2. YOU NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SMELL
Smelly feet at work are not ok. Penners are made with full grain leather and here’s why that matters for your feet: If the sweat on your feet cannot evaporate or “breathe” then your sweat will produce bacteria. The bacteria is what smells. Leather is an organic material with pores designed by nature to let sweat pass through just like the pores in our skin. However, not all leather is made the same. Most leather has the top layer sanded down and refinished with an artificial surface. This refinishing process fills in the pores, greatly reducing the leather’s natural ability to breathe. Full grain leather is, by definition, leather that has not been sanded down and refinished. Full grain is the only type of leather that does not clog the pores but instead maintains the leather’s natural ability to breathe. Many women wear their Penners several times a week for several months and never experience even the slightest odor.
3. YOU NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT ACHY FEET
Whether you stand or walk or work indoors or out, your feet will start to ache if your shoes restrict the natural movement of the joints and muscles in your feet. When a shoe's footbed is flat and the shoe is flexible at the forefoot then the body can walk in a way that encourages the development of proper gait mechanics and stand in a way that encourages the proper development of the muscles and tendons in your feet, ankles, and legs. Penners are designed with all of this in mind. Penners have pre-cut slits in the midsole along the forefoot to provide additional flexibility for the metatarsal as your foot bends through each step. Penners also include 2 elastics across the instep. The elastics provide additional flexibility along the metatarsal, allowing your feet to bend and flex naturally through each step. And finally, full grain leather molds and conforms to the unique contours of your feet within 3-6 hours of wear.
4. THEY GO WITH EVERYTHING
Penners come in four neutral uppers - Black, Caramel, Vanilla, and Grey. The black goes with everything and can be dressed up. The Vanilla and Caramel compliment both warm tones and contrasting cool tones. You might not think so but you'll find that the grey pairs with anything. One of the most common things we hear from customers is how pleasantly surprised they are when their Penners work with almost any outfit, especially outfits for work. The overarching style of Penners works well with most outfits because your Penners will always look minimal but put together.
5. YOU CAN THROW THEM ON AND OFF IN LESS THAN 2.4 SECONDS
This was not an afterthought. Penner Footwear doesn’t believe in laces or straps or anything that requires you to bend down. If you need to switch to a heel for a formal event or you're coming from the gym, Penners have been carefully designed to eliminate the need to bend over. There's never any fiddling or fussing. You'll notice that it's a really nice way to live.
